The Food Safety Authority have issued a recall alert which involves a popular supermarket ham, due to an ingredient that may not be listed on the packaging
A supermarket ham has been recalled from shelves due to the presence of gluten that may not be listed on the packaging.
The affected batch has been described as unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of cereals containing gluten (wheat).
The affected batch, 20163983, with a use-by date of 04.06.2026, is from Divilly Brothers No Added Nitrite Crumbed Ham, which is a pack size of 90g.
Those who may have purchased the ham have been alerted not to consume the product and to return it to the point of purchase for a refund.
The FSAI released the following regarding the recall: “Divilly’s is recalling Divilly Brothers No Added Nitrite Crumbed Ham because it contains wheat (gluten), which is not mentioned on the label. This product contains wheat (gluten), making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or with coeliac disease.”
They followed the statement with: “Divilly’s is recalling the above product and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.
“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
The FSAI also have general advice for consumers who may be affected by recalls in the future: “If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to where you bought it from for a full refund.
“Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold.
“Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product). Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk.
“When there is a food allergy risk, the FSAI will issue an Allergy Alert.”
