If your Aadhaar card was issued 10 years ago, now is the time to update it. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is currently offering free Aadhaar document updates, but this facility is only available until June 14th. After that, you will be charged a fee for updating your Aadhaar.

Officials have advised people to update their identity and address details in time to avoid any problems in banking, government subsidies and other Aadhaar-related services.

According to the UIDAI, it’s crucial that Aadhaar information remains accurate and up-to-date. Over the course of 10 years, a person’s address may change, their face may change, or other personal information may change.

Retaining outdated information in Aadhaar can lead to problems with bank KYC, availing benefits of government schemes, and using many Aadhaar-based services. Therefore, the UIDAI recommends updating Aadhaar information every 10 years to ensure uninterrupted service access.

Currently, this document update service is available free of charge on the UIDAI’s official website until June 14th. After that, the usual fees will apply. Fortunately, this process can be completed online, allowing you to easily complete it from your mobile phone or laptop from home.

To update your Aadhaar, first visit the UIDAI website and log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP. Then, select the Document Update option. Here, you’ll need to verify your current information and upload valid Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents. These documents can include documents like your Voter ID, PAN card, or ration card.

After logging in, carefully check your details, such as your name, gender, date of birth, and address. If all the information is correct, confirm it and upload the required documents. Upon completion, you will receive a Service Request Number (SRN), which you can use to track the status of your update.

It’s important to note that uploaded documents must be clear and legible. If the name on the document doesn’t match the name in Aadhaar, it will need to be corrected first. The file size should not exceed 2MB, and only JPEG, PNG, or PDF formats will be accepted. With the deadline approaching, people are advised to complete this process as soon as possible to avoid further inconvenience.
