Ganga Expressway: On April 29, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ganga Expressway, one of the longest expressways in the country. Since its inauguration, the journey from Meerut to Prayagraj has become much easier and faster. Previously, it took 10 to 12 hours to cover this distance, but now people can reach Prayagraj in just 5 to 6 hours. Although tolls were exempt for the first 15 days after the expressway’s inauguration, toll collection will begin on this expressway starting today, May 14th. Tolls will be deducted based on distance
A ‘closed toll system’ has been implemented on the Ganga Expressway. This means that tolls will be charged based on the distance traveled. Toll payment will be completely through FASTag, so that vehicles can pass easily without stopping.
How much toll is charged on which vehicle?
According to the rates issued by UPDA, the toll for different vehicles is as follows:
Light vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans are charged ₹2.55 per kilometer.
Two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and tractors are charged ₹1.28 per kilometer.
Light commercial vehicles and minibuses will have to pay a toll of ₹4.05 per kilometer.
Heavy vehicles like buses and trucks are charged ₹8.20 per kilometer.
Large multi-axle and heavy machinery vehicles are charged ₹12.60 per kilometer.
Vehicles with seven or more axles are charged ₹16.10 per kilometer.
In this case, car drivers will have to pay a toll of approximately ₹1,515 for the entire journey from Meerut to Prayagraj.
Small commercial vehicles will have to pay approximately ₹2,405, while buses and trucks will have to pay approximately ₹4,840.
UPDA states that toll rates have been set to facilitate the expressway’s maintenance and improved facilities, and these rates may be revised in the future.
Expressway Connects 12 Districts
This approximately 594-kilometer expressway begins from Bijauli village in Meerut and ends at Judapur Dandu in Prayagraj. It passes through 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. Currently, approximately 7,000 to 8,000 vehicles travel on this expressway every day. Modern facilities have been provided to provide passengers with a better and faster journey.
Monitoring with AI Cameras
AI cameras have been installed on the expressway, monitoring every vehicle. The maximum speed limit for vehicles here is 120 kilometers per hour. Violators can be fined up to 20,000 rupees.
