An emotional Doireann Garrihy thanked listeners today as she returned to the airwaves after seven months off after welcoming daughter Rosie, kicking off her new show in the 2FM schedule
Doireann Garrihy returned to our airwaves on Tuesday after seven months off after welcoming her first child Rosie last year.
Viewers were thrilled as the Dancing With The Stars presenter returned to 2FM this week, and Doireann admitted she was grateful for their kind reaction as she revealed she had been feeling ‘a little bit jittery’ as she opened her 2FM show on Tuesday morning.
Sharing how delighted she was to return to radio, despite her nerves, she told listeners, “What a joy it is to be back in the building, back in front of a microphone after six months of maternity leave”.
“Thank you so much for joining me today. I’m a little bit jittery, but that’s grand. No lads, in a few minutes now, a sip of water, a few songs, a few chats, and we’ll be grand,” Doireann laughed.
Doireann who gave birth to her first child Rosie last October, previously hosted the Breakfast show for five years, alongside Carl Mullan and Donncha O’Callaghan, she then moved to the Drive Time slot from 3pm until 6pm for eight months before heading on maternity leave.
And earlier this year, it was announced she would be moving to the mid-morning slot from 10am until 12pm as part of the 2FM schedule.
And taking to social media on Monday night to open up about the emotion of returning to work, Doireann admitted there were a lot of mixed feelings.
She told her Instagram followers: “I shed many tears for Rosie’s bedtime tonight. Then I texted my friends and sisters and rang my mom. My OG women!
“One of my favourite phrase is ‘two things can be true at the same time’. I can be sad to be finishing mat leave and I can be excited to get back to doing what I love.
“I can’t wait to get back on air tomorrow morning and then I can’t wait to get home to my dolly. I’m so ready.
“I hope you join me on RTE 2FM tomorrow from 10am. Let’s go.”
Doireann was inundated with messages from her listeners throughout her show on Tuesday – who were delighted to hear her back on air this morning, revealing “I’m back after mat leave and you’re trying to get me crying. You’re trying to get me going. The texts are absolutely gorgeous. I see them coming in.”
