
The national weather forecaster, Met Éireann, is forecasting a wet weekend for the May bank holiday, with a risk of thunderstorms in some parts of Ireland
If you were all set to break out the BBQ this May bank holiday weekend, you might want to think again, as it’s meant to be a drizzly few days.
Met Éireann, the national weather forecaster, are predicting a mix of cloudy and rainy weather, with some areas at risk of thunderstorms.

Today (Saturday) will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers. The showers will become more frequent and heavier through the afternoon before easing off again later in the day.
There is a chance of isolated thunderstorms, especially over the western half of the country.
However, some sunny spells will break through in parts. Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees are expected, with mostly light southerly breezes, veering northerly through the day.
Tonight, some showers will linger in Ulster and Connacht, but otherwise it will be generally dry to begin. A mix of cloud and clear spells at first, but with some mist and fog developing and possibly some outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the southeast. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees, with light northerly or variable breezes.
Sunday will be cloudy, but some sunny spells will develop as the day goes on, especially in Connacht and Ulster. Scattered showers will develop through the day, with more persistent outbreaks of rain and drizzle possibly developing in the southeast. Highest temperatures of 10 to 16 degrees, coolest in the southeast and warmest in Connacht, with light to moderate northerly winds.
Sunday night will be mainly dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells, but the odd light shower will also occur. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees, coolest in the north and mildest in the south, with a light to moderate northerly breeze.
The good news is there will be a period of dry weather for at least the first half of next week. Bank Holiday Monday will be generally cloudy with limited sunny spells and some light patches of rain or drizzle. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees, coolest in the north and warmest in the south, with a light to moderate northerly breeze. Monday night will again be generally dry, apart from a few patches of light rain or drizzle mainly further north, with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees, with a light northwesterly breeze. Tuesday will be cloudy with some patches of rain or drizzle. The rain and drizzle will gradually die out through the day with some bright spells developing from the north. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees, highest in the south, with a light to moderate northerly breeze. Wednesday will be a generally dry day, albeit quite cloudy with just limited sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 8 to 13 degrees, coolest in Ulster, with a light to moderate northerly breeze.
