ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 24th May, 2026) Pakistan and China on Sunday agreed to form a joint working group to assess potential cooperation in battery cell manufacturing and advanced energy technologies in line with Pakistan’s growing demand for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
In this regard, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, Minister for National food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Federal Secretary for Industries and Production Saif Anjum, visited the headquarters of CALB Group in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, as part of ongoing engagements aimed at strengthening Pakistan-China industrial and technology cooperation, said a news release.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on CALB’s advanced battery technology platforms, manufacturing capabilities, research and development activities, and global expansion initiatives in the field of lithium battery systems and advanced energy solutions.
Discussions focused on Pakistan’s growing potential in electric mobility, battery energy storage systems (BESS), industrial electrification, and the long-term development of an integrated new energy ecosystem.
Both sides agreed to establish a joint working group to further assess and better understand potential opportunities in Pakistan relating to battery cell manufacturing and associated new energy technologies through a phased and commercially driven approach, taking into consideration Pakistan’s evolving market landscape, industrial development objectives, and anticipated future demand for EV and energy storage solutions.
The discussions also included potential future technical collaboration, knowledge exchange, localisation pathways, and broader industrial cooperation opportunities aligned with Pakistan’s industrial modernisation and energy transition objectives.
It was further agreed that follow-up engagements would continue, including the planning of a future visit by CALB leadership to Pakistan for further discussions and assessment of potential areas of cooperation.
