Pakistan-hosted Champions Trophy 2025 among most profitable events in ICC history: reports

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, hosted by Pakistan, has emerged as one of the most profitable events in cricket history, while the Women’s Cricket World Cup in India the same year delivered the worst financial result of 2025 for the global body.

According to reports, the Champions Trophy generated $638.42 million in revenue across just 15 matches, working out to more than $42 million per game. Profits crossed $586 million. For comparison, the 2017 Champions Trophy in England generated roughly $187 million, meaning the 2025 edition nearly tripled that figure.

The numbers also served as a strong counter to the narrative that ODI cricket was losing its audience.

The Women’s Cricket World Cup in India on the other hand told a very different story. The ICC earned $31.32 million from the event, but hosting costs crossed $62.71 million, producing a net loss of $31.38 million.

The reports note that this was not an isolated case, with the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup also posting a $25 million loss, putting India at the centre of back-to-back losses on women’s events.

Also standing out in the figures is the 2025 World Test Championship Final between South Africa and Australia. That single match generated $35.4 million in revenue and $13.65 million in profit for the ICC, more than the entire Women’s World Cup produced across multiple venues in India.

On the ICC distribution side, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) takes the largest share at around $230 million per year, representing 38.5 percent of the total pool. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) follows at $41.33 million annually, Cricket Australia (CA) at $37.53 million, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) at $34.51 million per year.

The 12 full members collectively receive around 88.8 percent of the pool, while the 90-plus associate members share the remaining 11.2 percent.
