‘The View’s Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin criticize Trump’s new benefits for parents: “He wants American-born white children”

The View hosts Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin slammed the Trump administration after learning of its new policies aimed at raising childbirth rates in America to bring “more Trump babies,” as Dr. Oz put it during a press conference.

“What gets me is this lie that they care about children. They seem to care about white children. Like when they say more Trump babies, what does that mean?” Behar asked during the Tuesday, May 12 broadcast. She pointed out that the Trump administration “dismantled” USAID and cut billions from foreign aid, impacting children all around the world. “Don’t tell me you care about children. You only care about these children that you call Trump children.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin pointed out that there are some aspects of these policies that can help American families, adding, “These are tangible impacts that can help people. Trump gives us plenty to criticize him on. This, to me, is not bad policy.”

After acknowledging “everyone’s making great points,” Hostin noted, “two things can be true at the same time.”

“I think the intent can be questioned behind these new Trump policies,” she began. “There was no acknowledgment of the Black maternal mortality crisis, because Black women die at a much higher rate than any other demographic and this administration’s not concerned about that.”

She then turned to Behar and noted she agrees with her controversial point. “I think it’s true he wants Trump babies, which implies he wants American-born white children.”

“He wants toddler white nationalists,” Behar quipped with a laugh.

Hostin then added that she also “struggled with infertility” as Griffin did. After explaining she and her husband “went through our entire life savings to have children,” she gave Trump some credit for the new policies. “There’s so much to criticize Donald Trump for – especially his racism, his xenophobia and his misogyny. But these particular things […] I think these are good policies.”

However, Whoopi Goldberg was not so willing to give Trump his credit.

“I’ll believe it when I see people actually getting to do it but I will not give him this until he takes care of the kids from birth to 18 or to 20 [years old],” she said.

“I’m with you!” Behar added.
