LPG cylinder deliveries are now 100% guaranteed through DAC codes. This makes it difficult for even a single cylinder to be misplaced. This system is highly secure for the distribution of LPG cylinders and their delivery to the right consumers. However, cyber fraudsters have also become active in defrauding people through fake DAC codes. Companies supplying LPG cylinders have issued updates regarding DACs. Let’s see who said what and further in the news, we will also learn how to identify genuine and fake DACs.
How to identify genuine and fake DAC codes
Regarding the identification of LPG delivery messages, HPCL has written on the social media platform X that scammers may send fake messages posing as LPG delivery messages, but knowing how to identify genuine HP Gas messages can help you stay safe.
Always check before sharing Delivery Authentication Code. In this post, the company further wrote, “The message should come from the official sender name “VM-HPGASc-S”. It should contain a 4-digit OTP and the OTP should be used only at the time of cylinder delivery.
Keep in mind, HP Gas employees never ask for OTP through phone calls, WhatsApp or any suspicious link. If the message asks for hasty action, seems strange or is in a different format, do not trust it. Be alert, stay safe. Avoid cyber fraud with HP Gas.” Bharat Gas has also made a similar appeal.
What’s important for Indane consumers?
Cyber expert Upendra Singh explains, citing Indane’s message with examples, that first, ensure you’ve booked your cylinder. If you receive a delivery message without booking, ignore it. If you’ve booked, check to see if the message comes from an official sender ID (such as VK-INDANE, VM-INDANE, etc.).
Next, check whether the message includes a booking or invoice number, a 6-digit DAC code, and whether it’s only to be shared with the delivery person. Finally, it should be Indane’s name. Only share the DAC/OTP after the delivery person arrives with the cylinder. Never share it before that.
