Srinagar Arrest: Faisal, Ahmad Guroo held with Arms & LeT posters

Srinagar: Police in Srinagar on May 11 arrested two suspected operatives and recovered arms, ammunition, and propaganda material linked to the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) during a routine naka checking operation, officials said.

According to police sources, a joint team deployed for routine checking intercepted two individuals travelling on a motorcycle near the Baba Dem locality. Their suspicious movement prompted a thorough search, which led to the recovery of a pistol, three magazines, and 21 live rounds. In addition, security personnel seized two mobile phones and around 10 posters carrying LeT insignia and messaging, indicating possible involvement in terror propaganda or recruitment activities.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Faisal Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Malpora Habba Kadal, and Faisal Ahmad Guroo from Rajouri Kadal—both areas falling within the downtown belt of Srinagar, which has witnessed heightened surveillance in recent months.

Police have registered a case under FIR No. 26/2025 at the concerned police station under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act. Officials said preliminary investigation suggests that the accused may have been in contact with active terror networks, and their digital devices are being examined for further leads, including possible links to cross-border handlers.

Security agencies have intensified checking operations across Srinagar and adjoining districts amid inputs about attempts by militant outfits to revive their networks and spread propaganda. Officials added that further arrests and recoveries cannot be ruled out as the investigation progresses.
