Summer vacations in Punjab schools to span more than three months

Punjab’s Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced on Monday that summer vacations for schools across the province will begin on May 22 and continue until August 23, giving students and teachers more than three months off.

“School holidays in Punjab will start on Friday 22nd of May. Schools will resume on Monday the 24th of August Inshallah,” the minister wrote on his Facebook account.

The announcement comes as Punjab braces for an intense heat spell.

Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) had warned last week of above-normal temperatures and rain across the province till July.

The Met Office also cautioned that heatwaves, flash floods, urban flooding and windstorms could affect several regions in the coming months, with rising temperatures potentially triggering strong winds, dust storms and hailstorms that could damage seasonal crops, vegetables and orchards.

Last year, Punjab schools observed summer vacations from May 28 to August 14, though the government later extended the break for all public and private schools until August 31 due to extreme weather conditions.
