Second Day, Same Questions: Vijay Returns to Raj Bhavan Amid Government Formation Uncertainty – News Today | First with the news

Chennai, May 7:
A day after his first round of discussions failed to yield an invitation to form the government, Vijay once again met Governor R. N. Ravi at Raj Bhavan on Thursday, intensifying speculation over the evolving post-election political situation in Tamil Nadu.
The second meeting between Vijay and the Governor lasted for nearly 40 minutes at Lok Bhavan in Chennai. Sources indicated that Vijay briefed the Governor on the ongoing efforts to secure the support required to form the government and sought additional time to consolidate numbers. TVK is understood to be working towards the crucial 118-mark needed to demonstrate a stable majority in the 234-member Assembly.
The meeting comes a day after Vijay’s initial interaction with the Governor ended without a formal invitation to stake claim. While TVK had emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly election, the absence of an outright majority has pushed the party into intense negotiations with independents and smaller political formations.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, Vijay conveyed confidence that the numbers would soon fall into place and reiterated his intention to provide the Governor with proof of majority support. However, Raj Bhavan has so far maintained caution, reportedly waiting for concrete documentation before taking the next constitutional step.
Soon after leaving Lok Bhavan, Vijay held consultations with his legal team and senior advisors. Sources said multiple constitutional and political options were discussed, including the timing of support letters, the possibility of post-poll arrangements, and strategies to avoid procedural delays in government formation.
The back-to-back meetings have added further suspense to Tamil Nadu’s rapidly shifting political landscape. While supporters gathered outside Raj Bhavan expecting a breakthrough announcement, the Governor’s office remained silent on the outcome of Thursday’s discussions.
For now, the focus remains firmly on whether Vijay can translate electoral momentum into legislative numbers — and whether Tamil Nadu is on the verge of witnessing one of the most dramatic political transitions in recent history.
