A conman posing as the personal assistant of the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi allegedly cheated a woman of Rs 25 lakh. The accused is said to have promised to help her get a ticket in the Assembly elections and trapped her in their scam. Sources in the police said that the accused has been arrested, while they are looking for three other accused in the case. The accused had also gone to jail earlier, police said.
As per the complaint, the accused contacted Bhawana Pandey and introduced himself as Rahul Gandhi’s PA. To gain her trust, he allegedly made her hear voices claimed to be of senior leaders such as Harish Rawat, Yashpal Arya, Harak Singh Rawat and Ganesh Godiyal.
The gang then asked for money, saying that several MLAs were staying in a five-star hotel in Dehradun and money was needed for their expenses. Believing their story, the woman gave money through bank transfers and cash.
