A man from Dehradun has filed a complaint with the police alleging that he was cheated in a land deal worth more than Rs 42 lakh. The complainant, Pradeep Singh Bhandari, a resident of Premnagar area, has accused two persons of selling him government land through illegal plotting.

According to the complaint filed on Saturday, Bhandari said that he purchased a 403 square yard plot in the East Hope Town area of Dehradun from Sonu Thapa and Aryan. He claimed that the land was sold to him for Rs 42.60 lakh. Out of the total amount, Rs 28 lakh was paid through cheque and online transfer, while the remaining amount was paid in cash. The registry of the plot was executed on November 6, 2024.

The matter came to light when Bhandari visited the plot on December 15, 2025. He found that boundary walls of nearby plots had been broken. Local people informed him that officials had arrived with a JCB machine and demolished structures in the area. Bhandari then visited the Tehsil office, where he was allegedly told by officials that the land belonged to the State government and the plotting done there was illegal. He accused the sellers of cheating him by selling government land as private property. In his complaint, he also alleged that when he asked for his money back, the accused abused him and threatened him. The complaint was filed at Vasant Vihar police station. The SHO of Vasant Vihar police station, Shainki Chaudhary said that police have filed the complaint and investigation has started in the case.
