There has been a lot of speculation about whether the presenter will renew his contract with RTÉ, and it looks like we will all be waiting a little longer to find out if he will return
Patrick Kielty signed off on tonight’s Late Late Show episode amid speculation surrounding whether his contract will be renewed or not for the show’s 65th season.
It was the season finale of the show, as it goes on a summer break before picking back up again in the autumn, and Patrick addressed viewers at the end of the episode by saying, “That is it from us for tonight, and for this season, we hope you have a fab summer. This has been the Late Late Show, I’ve been Patrick Kielty, and playing us out tonight, this is Westlife! Goodnight.”
As of now, RTÉ have not confirmed whether a new contract will be offered to the presenter.
The comedian from Down originally signed a three-year contract with RTÉ, which began in 2023, and is officially finished after the last episode of the season aired this evening.
The director-general of RTÉ, Kevin Bakhurst, previously said he would like Patrick to stay on as the host, saying, “I’ve made it really clear to Patrick that we all think he’s doing a great job and we would like to continue that.”
In a statement, RTÉ said, “RTÉ does not comment on individual contracts … We look forward to the programme returning for its 65th year in the autumn.”
Patrick was confirmed as the fourth permanent host of the show in May 2023, one week before his predecessor, Ryan Tubridy, hosted his final episode. They both stand alongside Gay Byrne and Pat Kenny as the only permanent hosts of the popular chat show so far.
It comes as tonight’s season finale had a great line-up. Patrick was joined by Westlife as the band took a trip down memory lane. Shane Filan, Kian Egan and Nicky Byrne also performed three of their biggest hits, When You’re Looking Like That, My Love, and If I Let You Go.
They also chatted about gearing up for their 3Arena residency this September, shared some hilarious fan‑encounter stories and soaked up the nostalgia. Plus, one Westlife superfan went head‑to‑head with the lads in a quiz to find out who really knows the band best.
Boy George joined Patrick to chat about an exhibition of some of his most legendary outfits coming to the Museum of Style Icons at Newbridge Silverware this May.
Irish comedian Garron Noone was also part of the line‑up and brought his trademark craic and deliciousness to the show.
Having gone viral for running the London Marathon with a fridge on his back, Jordan Adams and his brother Cian shared their story and why they’re so determined to raise awareness of dementia after losing twelve relatives, including their mother, Geraldine, to the disease.
