Bihar Cabinet Expansion: Sons of Former CMs Take Office

NEW DELHI: Three sons of former Bihar chief ministers made it to the Samrat Choudharyled ministry which was expanded on May 7. They were Nishant Kumar, son of Nitish Kumar, Nitish Mishra, son of Jagannath Mishra, and Santosh Kumar Suman alias Santosh Manjhi, son of Jitan Ram Manjhi.

A total of 32 Ministers took the oath of office at Gandhi Maidan in Patna.

Among others who were sworn in as ministers were Shrawon Kumar, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, Leshi Singh, Ram Kripal Yadav, Damodar Rawat, Sanjay Singh (Tiger) and Ashok Choudhary.

Later, Nishant Kumar was entrusted with the Health Department. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary were present at the ceremony.

The cabinet expansion came months after the NDA secured a sweeping mandate in the 243-member Bihar Assembly, winning 202 seats. The BJP emerged as the single largest party with 89 seats, followed by JD(U) with 85. Alliance partners LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM(S) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha also registered gains.

Later, Nishant Kumar talking to media men he referred to the developmental work carried out by his father over the last two decades, particularly in the healthcare sector and public welfare administration.

Ensuring continuity He stated that his effort would be to ensure continuity in that developmental journey while further strengthening initiatives already launched for public benefit.

The opposition Mahagathbandhan was reduced to 35 seats, with the RJD winning 25, Congress six, CPI(ML) (L) two, while smaller parties shared the remaining seats.

On November 20, 2025, Nitish Kumar took oath as Chief Minister for a record 10th time. On March 30, 2026, he resigned from the Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) and moved to the Rajya Sabha as part of a wider political realignment.
