Chennai, May 26:
The resignation of three rebel AIADMK MLAs and joining TVK has raised several eyebrows.
The AIADMK was quick to accuse the TVK of indulging in horse-trading. “It is 100 percent horse trading. Even before their resignations were accepted, the three legislators meeting minister Aadhav Arjuna and their admission into the party in lightning speed clearly shows that this is 100 percent horse trading,” AIADMK leader IS Inbadurai charged in a post on ‘X’.
Meanwhile, DMK MP P Wilson accused the TVK of turning the State Secretariat, the seat of power, into his party office, by inducting the resigned MLAs into their party. He also claimed that byelections to three seats to be held following the resignations of three rebels, were being thrusted on the people — a waste of public money — for their personal political gains.
“Within 21 days, three elected MLAs charged with defection resigned and immediately joined the TVK party at the Secretariat premises to evade the anti-defection law. It is highly condemnable that the Government Secretariat premises and chambers have become places to join a political party, and all ethics and conduct have been cast aside.”
“Elections are now being forcibly imposed on the people of these three constituencies for personal political gain, and a significant amount of public money and time is likely to be wasted on another by-election, which normally must be held within six months”, he wrote on X.
