Lahore Seals Over 20 Bus Terminals in Crackdown on Overcharging

Authorities sealed more than 20 transport terminals, arrested six people and suspended a terminal administrator during a major crackdown on overcharging and transport violations in Lahore.

The enforcement operation was launched during a visit to the city’s main Lari Adda by Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar, Adviser to the Chief Minister Zeeshan Malik and Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Aijaz.

During the visit, officials inspected passenger facilities and reviewed complaints about excessive fares, unsafe travel conditions and passengers being transported on vehicle rooftops.

Officials said enforcement teams sealed more than 20 transport bus stands over serious violations of transport regulations. Six suspects were also detained for allegedly overcharging passengers and breaching transport laws.

The action followed repeated public complaints about unfair fare practices, poor facilities and unsafe boarding arrangements at major intercity transport hubs.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar said the government would continue strict action against transport operators charging fares above officially approved rates, adding that passenger exploitation would not be tolerated.

Adviser to the Chief Minister Zeeshan Malik said the provincial government was committed to ending illegal profiteering and taking action against organized transport mafias operating at bus terminals across Punjab.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Aijaz said authorities were working to improve discipline and service standards at public transport facilities. He warned that negligence and regulatory violations would face immediate action.

Officials said the sealed terminals remain under monitoring as investigations continue, while enforcement teams are carrying out inspections at key transport points to ensure compliance with fare and safety regulations.
