Phil Collins has shared a positive update about his health and revealed that he is open to the possibility of performing live again in the future.
The former Genesis drummer and singer has faced ongoing medical challenges since suffering a spinal injury in 2007. Over the years, Collins has undergone multiple surgeries and struggled with mobility issues that affected his ability to perform on stage.
During Genesis’ farewell concerts in 2022, Collins performed while seated in a chair, while his son Nic Collins played drums for the band.
Earlier this year, Collins spoke candidly about the severity of his health problems, revealing he relied on a full-time live-in nurse to help manage his medication and daily care. He also admitted to experiencing serious issues with his knees and general physical health.
However, speaking in a new interview on BBC Breakfast on May 22, the 75-year-old musician said he is now feeling much better. Collins stated that he is healthier than he has been “for quite a while”.
Collins also confirmed he was invited to perform at the 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony but decided against it.
“They asked me if I would perform and I said no, because you’ve got to be match fit to do something like that,” he said.
He explained that returning to the stage would require extensive rehearsals and vocal preparation, which he currently does not feel ready for.
“You can’t just go on stage and you’re gonna have to rehearse and then by that point, if you’ve not been singing, your voice is going to be shot and then that’s not gonna be good. So I’d rather not do it.”
The musician said performing at that level demands being “match fit,” adding that he would rather decline than deliver a performance he felt was not strong enough.
Despite turning down the event, Collins kept one door open for returning to music. He admitted he still thinks about it and said he would “contemplate” touring or performing live again at some point.
“But whether I would go out again, I would contemplate, yeah. I’m constantly saying to myself, I better go back down into my studio at home.”
The singer previously appeared on stage using a walking stick and has undergone five knee operations.
