The Rajpur police arrested a woman on Sunday in connection with a murder case that took place in the Rajpur area about a year ago. The accused, identified as Humera alias Zoya (22) from Muzaffarnagar, was carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on her arrest. Earlier, police had arrested her boyfriend Rajan alias Jackie, a sharp shooter, in the case. Police said that Rajan was allegedly promised a share in the property by Amit Bhateja in exchange for killing his stepbrother.
According to superintendent of police (City) Pramod Kumar, the murder was planned over a property dispute. He said that Ajay Bhatia’s stepbrother Bhateja had allegedly hired contract killers to kill him in exchange for a share in the family property.
He further informed that during interrogation, Rajan revealed that his girlfriend Humera had also helped him in carrying out the crime. After receiving this information, a police team launched a search operation and arrested Humera from Saharanpur. The police revealed that the accused came to Dehradun on May 25, 2025, on the pretext of visiting a friend admitted to a hospital. They stayed at Bhatia’s house in Jakhan. The plan was to first get the property papers from Bhatia after making him drink alcohol and then kill him.
Police said when Bhatia refused to hand over the documents, Rajan allegedly attacked him and killed him by suffocating him with a pillow. After the murder, Rajan and Humera allegedly tried to hang the body from a ceiling fan to make it look like a suicide, but failed. They later cleaned the room to destroy evidence and fled from Dehradun. “The mastermind of this case, Bhateja, is still absconding and our teams are making efforts to arrest him soon,” the SP said.
