Salman Agha being considered for Pakistan Test captain role: reports

Salman Agha is being considered as a replacement for Shan Masood as Pakistan Test captain in the event of the latter’s resignation or removal.

According to reports, the development follows Pakistan’s 78-run defeat in the Sylhet Test against Bangladesh, their fourth consecutive loss against the same opposition, which has left Masood’s future in the role uncertain.

Reports added that communication between Masood and his teammates had become negligible following the defeat. During the team’s journey back home, Masood barely interacted with his fellow players and instead spent time with his family.

Pakistan suffered back-to-back Test series whitewashes at the hands of Bangladesh, deepening the team’s slump and intensifying scrutiny on the captain.

Pakistan’s next Test assignment is a two-match series in the West Indies in July. Before that, the team’s focus shifts to a three-match home ODI series against Australia, scheduled from May 30 to June 4.

Players named in the ODI squad will report in Islamabad today, with the training camp beginning in Rawalpindi the following day.

Australia’s squad for the series is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Saturday. The series marks Australia’s first tour of Pakistan in the 50-over format since 2022, when Pakistan won 2-1.

Earlier this year, Pakistan swept Australia 3-0 in a home T20I series in Lahore.

It is worth noting that Salman Agha already serves as Pakistan’s T20I captain.
