The latest season of the hit ITV dating show is just days away, and it’s looking increasingly likely that Sean Fitzgerald will be part of the lineup – and he’s not the only Irish star
Galway footballer Sean Fitzgerald is tipped to appear on Love Island after stepping away from the Galway panel.
The 25-year-old GAA star has reportedly been cast in the hit ITV series, which kicks off on Monday, June 1st.
Sean was absent from the Galway team for their Connacht final defeat to Roscommon earlier this month, and The Irish Sun reports that he has left the panel ahead of their All-Ireland match against Kildare this weekend.
Away from GAA, Sean works as a primary school teacher.
He also has a large social media following, boasting 94,000 followers on TikTok and a further 25,000 on Instagram.
Sean previously posted a video on social media, expressing interest in taking part in the show.
And now punters have given the Galway man odds of 3/1 to appear in the Majorcan villa in just a few days time.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “The Galway team’s loss is Love Island ‘s gain! Sean has gained serious popularity online and would be a great addition to the show, the Love Island crown might just make it to the city of Tribes.”
Another familiar face in Ireland is also tipped to take part in this year’s series.
Influencer Charleen Murphy from Dublin has been heavily linked to the show since earlier this year.
Charleen is close friends with Love Island star Lucinda Strafford, who appeared on the most recent All-Stars series
Her summer in Spain would come following her split from footballer boyfriend Danny Mandroiu.
A source previously revealed to The Sun: “Charleen split from her boyfriend earlier this year and Lucinda told ITV bosses they should get her on the show.
“She’s really gorgeous and fun and has a lot of Irish charm – she’s been friends with Lucinda for years so of course Lucinda would put a word in for her.”
Irish contestants have made a huge impact on Love Island over the years – most notably Maura Higgins, whose career is climbing to new heights in the US.
Greg O’Shea won series five of the show, while Jack Keating recently impressed on All Stars.
Other past Irish contestants include Dami Hope, Rob Lipsett, Yewande Biala and Matthew MacNabb.
