In a significant development for India’s electrical infrastructure and industrial manufacturing ecosystem, Intertech, in partnership with UK-based James Durrans & Sons, has announced plans for phased manufacturing of original Marconite in India. The announcement was made during the ELASIA 2026 trade exhibition, one of South Asia’s leading platforms dedicated to power, electrical systems, automation and lighting technologies.
The initiative marks a strategic step towards localisation of advanced grounding technologies and aligns with India’s expanding infrastructure requirements and the Government’s “Make in India” vision.
James Durrans & Sons, a 163-year-old British company and global manufacturer of Marconite technology, has maintained an association with Intertech since 2011 to expand the product’s footprint in the Indian market. Speaking on the occasion, David Wilson of James Durrans & Sons stated that India had been identified as a key growth market nearly two decades ago, eventually leading to the partnership with Intertech to establish Marconite applications across the country.
Over the years, the collaboration has expanded steadily, with Marconite now being deployed across diverse sectors including solar energy, power utilities, oil and gas, railways and metro infrastructure.
The companies stated that groundwork is currently underway to establish manufacturing pathways, technical processes and raw material sourcing mechanisms for local production. The first phase is expected to involve a pilot manufacturing facility within the next 12–18 months, which could later be scaled up to meet broader market demand.
Intertech CEO Gurumohit Singh noted that the company has consistently focused on engineered earthing solutions designed specifically for Indian operating conditions. He said Intertech follows a scientific approach involving soil resistivity studies, fault current calculations and site-specific engineering before implementing grounding systems.
Originally developed for military and radar applications, Marconite is a globally recognised carbon-based conductive material used in earthing and lightning protection systems. Unlike conventional grounding compounds, it is designed to function without water and requires minimal maintenance, enabling long-term operational reliability.
Globally, Marconite technology has been deployed across critical infrastructure and defence-linked organisations, while Intertech has built a strong presence in India across industrial and infrastructure sectors, supporting projects involving leading public and private institutions.
