The Canadian government has issued a travel advisory warning citizens about possible flight disruptions and fuel shortages linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
In a notice published Tuesday, Global Affairs Canada said travellers heading to the Middle East, or passing through the region, could face sudden cancellations and delays during the busy summer travel season.
“Summer is fast approaching, and many Canadians are planning to travel abroad,” the advisory stated.
“The situation in the Middle East is presenting challenges that travellers around the world need to be aware of. Fuel shortages may lead to flight cancellations and disrupt access to local goods and services at your destination.”
The government warned that the impact could extend beyond the Middle East because global fuel and supply chain disruptions may continue for months.
“You should carefully assess the risks of travelling abroad under the current circumstances and plan accordingly,” the notice said.
Officials also stressed that Canadians stranded overseas may receive limited assistance and should be prepared financially.
“No financial assistance will be provided by the Government of Canada.”
The advisory encouraged travellers to buy comprehensive travel insurance and carry enough funds and medication to support themselves in case trips are unexpectedly extended.
