Jwala Gutta Donates 60 Liters of Breast Milk to Help Premature Babies

Former badminton player Jwala Gutta has started an important discussion on maternal and newborn health. She recently shared in an X post that she donated nearly 60 liters of breastmilk to government hospitals in Hyderabad and Chennai during her first year after giving birth.

In the post, Gutta explained that even 100 ml of donor milk can support a premature baby weighing 1 kg in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for several days. She emphasized that donor milk provides a crucial resource for newborns whose mothers may not be able to breastfeed right away due to illness, stress, premature delivery, malnutrition, or medical issues.

“Just 100 ml of donor milk can feed a tiny 1 kg baby for several days. This donation could potentially help dozens of babies in the NICU. Donating is safe, screened, and desperately needed. Many NICU babies don’t have immediate access to their mother’s milk because of medical complications. Donor milk provides immunity and nutrition during those critical early days,” Jwala Gutta wrote.
