One of the country’s most buzzy murder cases of the decade has resurfaced.
Alex Murdaugh, a former South Carolina personal injury attorney, became the subject of many a docuseries, film, and show after being charged with the murders of his wife, Maggie Murdaugh, and his youngest son, Paul Murdaugh in 2022.
While Alex was originally found guilty of the murders in 2023 and was sentenced to life in prison at the time, his murder convictions was overturned by the South Carolina Supreme Court earlier today, per The New York Times. According to NBC News, the court unanimously agreed that there was a “shocking” interference from Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca “Becky” Hill during his 2023 trial. People reports that Alex will stay in prison, as he is currently serving time for other state and federal charges.
Since the deaths of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh in 2021, Alex Murdaugh’s story has been chronicled in docuseries like Netflix‘s Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal, and has even been dramatized in series like Hulu‘s Murdaugh: Death in the Family.
