The Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey reviewed land fraud cases in the region on Saturday in Dehradun. A total of 125 land fraud cases were reviewed, in which 45 cases were resolved during the meeting, while orders were given to register FIRs in 24 cases. Pandey also expressed dissatisfaction over delays in resolution of major land fraud cases.
The 125 land fraud cases reviewed in the meeting included 20 old pending cases and 105 new complaints. Most of the new cases were from Dehradun district, where 74 complaints were received. There were 15 cases from Haridwar, 13 from Pauri, two from Tehri and one from Chamoli.
The commissioner said that the State government is following a zero tolerance policy against land fraud. He stressed that cheating people in land matters will not be accepted. Pandey directed all officers to complete investigations quickly and take action without delay. He also asked officials to finish joint inspections this week and submit reports without delay.
Pandey said that in some cases, people sold land they did not own. In other cases, khasra numbers were changed to cheat buyers. In some cases, the dimensions were wrong- for example, two bigha land was sold as four bigha land. He ordered police to take strict legal action against those involved.
He ordered officials to achieve progress in such matters within 15 days. If illegal construction has already been proved, immediate action should be taken.
The commissioner said that some cases were settled through mutual agreement, while in some matters money was returned after administrative help. He added that if the cases are not related to land fraud it should be communicated to the complainants.
Garhwal inspector general Rajeev Swaroop and other officials were also present in the meeting.
